I'm hoping that by 'not everyone surviving the first arc,' he means minor characters. It's obvious that a lot of the main cast has to live because they're present in the modern day (Xanadu, Savage, and presumably Etrigan), and I can't imagine Cornell bringing Sir Ystin back from obscurity just to kill her off. So that would mean either Exoristos or Al Jabr would be the ones to buy the farm, and that'd be a waste of two great new characters.
