Demon Knights #3 Annotations

Issue #4 comes out tomorrow, so let's get this out there.

Previously...

The Questing Queen and her Horde have been trying to get past the town of Little Spring, but her outriders (and their "dragons") have been defeated by the Demon Knights (and the dragons eaten by Vandal Savage). As the queen continues more attacks on the village, Madame Xanadu makes a sacrifice to erect a magical barrier around Little Spring.

Demon Knights #1 Reviews, Part Dix

I actually started this post back in October... So issue #1 is still rocking four Baby Etrigan Heads:

Grant at the Weekly Crisis names Demon Knights as the third best title of the DCnU.

Demon Knights #3 Sales Figures

Diamond has published their sales figures and ICv2 their estimates for November's comics, including Demon Knights #3. There was a rank of 72, a dollar rank of 69, an index of 20.67, and an estimated quantity of 31,213 sold. Quantity-wise, this is a very large dropoff from #2, and rank-wise, it's right about in line with where #1 was in September. Here's our graph thus far:

From DC's website:

Bodies are piling up, and one of their own has switched sides to lead the charge to destroy them! So how will the Knights turn the tide of battle? It all comes down to the deal Etrigan and Jason Blood have made. But can a demon truly be trusted under fire, or would he rather watch you burn?

Meanwhile, our other hero (Horsewoman) is traveling to the town to warn its citizens that the Horde is approaching.

Some highlights:

  • Questing Queen != MLF
  • Vandal Savage = Brian Blessed
  • Not everyone may survive the first arc...
  • ... but Horsewoman does. She's a big focus for the second arc (#8 - 11, set in Alba Sarum).

Demon Knights #2 Sales Figures

This month I discovered ICv2, which takes Diamond's numbers and actually gives an estimate of how many copies of each issue were sold. For example, Demon Knights #1 sold approximately 37,442 copies.

Demon Knights #2 had a rank of 62, a dollar rank of 60, an index of 22.04, and an estimated quantity of 38,007. This is actually an increase over the first issue's numbers in last month! When does that ever happen? My guess is that the overwhelming positive reviews of the first issue caused lots of readers to come in and check out the second issue.

So now that we have two months of data, let's start graphing the trends. What I'll do each month is include these four pieces of data (rank, dollar rank, index, and ICv2's estimated quantity), and create a little line graph using gnuplot to show how they change from month to month. Here's what we have after two issues:

Demon Knights #3 Preview

Check out this PopMatters article for a preview of Demon Knights #3, coming out tomorrow.

Note that, as of right now, none of the images (except for the cover), are loading for me. It looks like the pound sign in the filename might be causing some issues... Hopefully PopMatters gets this sorted out soon.

Update. I did find a working preview at ComicBookRealm.com.

Demon Knights #5 Solicit

So um, there's this blog that I'm supposed to be blogging from time to time. I haven't been for a bit. Whoops. Anywho, while I was gone, DC went and posted the solicit for Demon Knights #5. Here's the rundown:
Written by PAUL CORNELL; Art by DIOGENES NEVES and OCLAIR ALBERT; Cover by MIKE CHOI
The pressure is mounting as the Horde prepares to breach the walls of Little Spring – but inside the town, our heroes are at each other's throats! With their fragile alliance in tatters, and the enemy whispering in their ears, someone's going to break – but for a reason you never saw coming!

Demon Knights #1 Sales Figures

So Diamond posted their top 100 comics for September. Our very own Demon Knights #1 came in at number 72, (68 dollar rank) with a sales index of 19.87, which means that for every 100 Batman #1's sold, 19.87 Demon Knights #1's were sold.

Demon Knights #1 Reviews, Part Huit

So, reviews just keep piling in and piling in some more. I imagine this will slow down in future months, as this is a #1 and all. However, I am kind of liking this format of review linkblogging, i.e., multiple posts, numbered in a foreign language. So we'll do that.

Anywho, here goes:

Still rocking four Baby Etrigan Heads.

Note that there's still a bunch of podcast/vodcast reviews sitting in my Google Reader that I have yet to listen to/watch.

It's not really a review, but PopMatters posted this discussion about some of the New 52 titles, and Demon Knights gets mentioned quite a bit.

Bleeding Cool asks why no one's really freaking out about that exploding baby. Also, they note that a second printing will be released on October 12.

In other news, Paul Cornell did a poll on his blog asking fans what their favorite Demon Knights character was. Horsewoman won.

Demon Knights #1 Reviews, Part Six

So apparently "six" in French is "six". Hrmph. Here we go:

We still have four Baby Etrigan Heads.

Not a review, but Comics Alliance has been comparing pre- to post-Flashpoint DC continuity. Their Demon Knights segment focuses on Sir Ystin and his/her differences from the Grant Morrison Seven Soldiers version.

Also, Demon Knights #1 was iFanboy 's second highest rated title and second highest pick of the week from Week 2 of the New 52.
