Demon Knights #1 Reviews, Part Huit

So, reviews just keep piling in and piling in some more. I imagine this will slow down in future months, as this is a #1 and all. However, I am kind of liking this format of review linkblogging, i.e., multiple posts, numbered in a foreign language. So we'll do that.

Anywho, here goes:

Still rocking four Baby Etrigan Heads.

Note that there's still a bunch of podcast/vodcast reviews sitting in my Google Reader that I have yet to listen to/watch.

It's not really a review, but PopMatters posted this discussion about some of the New 52 titles, and Demon Knights gets mentioned quite a bit.

Bleeding Cool asks why no one's really freaking out about that exploding baby. Also, they note that a second printing will be released on October 12.

In other news, Paul Cornell did a poll on his blog asking fans what their favorite Demon Knights character was. Horsewoman won.

ComiXology interviews Paul Cornell

So ComiXology, you know, those guys that done puts the comics on the internets, posted this interview with Paul Cornell regarding Demon Knights.

There's not a lot of new information, but he does give this little teaser about Demon Knights #4:
Issue four is a big flashback/flash forward issue, which reveals loads about the origins of the Shining Knight and what her quest is.

Demon Knights #1 Reviews, Part Six

So apparently "six" in French is "six". Hrmph. Here we go:

We still have four Baby Etrigan Heads.

Not a review, but Comics Alliance has been comparing pre- to post-Flashpoint DC continuity. Their Demon Knights segment focuses on Sir Ystin and his/her differences from the Grant Morrison Seven Soldiers version.

Also, Demon Knights #1 was iFanboy 's second highest rated title and second highest pick of the week from Week 2 of the New 52.

Demon Knights #1 Reviews, Part Quatre

A few more reviews: The composite rating is still holding strong at four Baby Etrigan Heads.

Paul Cornell Tweets

Paul Cornell tweeted some interesting Demon Knights-related info recently.

In response to this tweet, he informed us that Demon Knights takes place in the 9th Century.

In the conversation ending with this tweet, Cornell reassures a fan that any changes to Madame Xanadu post-Flashpoint aren't being done willy-nilly.

Demon Knights #2 Art Revealed

DC Comics tweeted some finished art from Demon Knights #2. The uncolored version of this two-page spread had been previously released in this Newsarama interview.

IGN interviews Paul Cornell

IGN posted an interview with Paul Cornell, writer of Demon Knights. Most of what he said has appeared before in previous interviews, but I saw at least two new pieces of information. First, the powers that be at DC had initially approached Cornell about doing a Demon solo series, but it was his idea to make it a team book. Also, we may or may not see a medieval Swamp Thing in an upcoming issue.

Demon Knights #4 Solicit

iFanboy has released all the solicits for the December "Dark" titles, including Demon Knights #4. Note that Mike Choi is only drawing a backup, and the cover that Wired released on Wednesday is not the final cover.

Now, a powerful vision will reveal to her the true stakes of the battle for Little Spring and pull back the curtain on one of the biggest secrets in the DC Universe! Don’t miss “Merlin Watches The Storm,” featuring guest art by the sensational Mike Choi (X-Force)! And yes, “storm” is a hint.

Demon Knights #4 cover/guest artist revealed

I actually posted a link to this Wired article back on Wednesday, but it's probably worth noting that it features the first glance at the cover to December's Demon Knights #4 by Mike Choi.

Also, the DC Comics Twitter person tweeted that Choi will also be the guest interior artist for this issue.

Paul Cornell himself tweeted that #4 "is a big issue, a reach out to past and future, designed to give Dio a break."

Demon Knights #1 Annotations

Finally -- original content!

One of the main features of this site will be annotations for new issues of Demon Knights as well as comic books from the past featuring the stars of Demon Knights. Although I have an encyclopedic knowledge of some corners of the DC Universe *cough*Flash*cough*, this is not one of them. Therefore, I will be googling and researching furiously to compile these, until eventually I do have an encyclopedic knowledge of this corner, too!

I'll be linking to various wikis where you can learn more about each topic. For the non-DC-specific stuff, I'll link to Wikipedia. For the DC-specific stuff, I'll link to the DC Comics Database. Here we go!

Demon Knights #1 Reviews, Part Deux

So obviously Thursday is too early to post all the reviews of a comic book which comes out on Wednesday. I'm new at this, so bear with me! Maybe Friday is too early too. We'll see. I'll zero in on a day eventually. Also, there are probably a great deal more reviews than usual, seeing as this is a #1 and all. Not just any old #1, but part of the New 52.

So here's the new stuff.  See this post for more.

No change to the composite rating. Still four Baby Etrigan Heads!

Demon Knights #1 Reviews

Demon Knights #1 is out!  Of course, as previously mentioned, I live in BFE and haven't gotten this week's comics yet, but other folks out there across the world wide webs have.  Here are their thoughts on this issue.
Notice that I've been tracking the star rating that reviewers have been giving the issue, and when there is no star rating, whether the review was positive or negative. Why? Well, I'm planning on doing a Rotten Tomatoes-esque composite rating of each issue. This issue's rating (thus far):

That's four out of five Baby Etrigan Heads!

Wednesday Linkages

I'll probably come up with a cleverer, more-appropriate-to-the-theme-of-this-site name for this type of post at some point in the future. You know the type of post. You read enough blogs. This is the post where Mr./Ms. Blogger lets Google News do all his/her work for him/her and just links to a bunch of posts on other blogs/news sites.

Here goes:

I already see one review of the first issue up, but I'll wait to post it until some more reviews are out.

First Post!

Today, the first issue of DC Comics' new series Demon Knights by Paul Cornell and Diogenes Neves arrives in a comic book store near you! (That is, unless you live in the boonies like myself, in which it arrives tomorrow, or maybe Friday if UPS screws up again.)

And with this new series, the internets demand that a blog appear, with which to provide you, the intrepid internet user and comic book fan, with news and information specifically regarding said series.

First, a little about myself. My name, er, internet handle, is profzoom. I've been reading comics since I was 11, and have been active in internet comic fandom since shortly thereafter. I've been a regular poster in various Usenet newsgroups and website forums, webmaster of a Flash-related website in the late 90s, and administrator at the DC Comics Database.

However, throughout all this fandom and internetting, I had never once read a comic book or written a post or article about one Demon, Etrigan the or Blood, Jason.

Why, then, would I choose to blog about this yellow-skinned Kirby creation? On one hand, my favorite character is already taken. But on the other, this title sounds really freakin' cool.

As a kid, I used to love to play with Castle Legos and dreamed of what life would have been like in the Middle Ages. I read lots of children's fantasy, from Baum to Lewis to Alexander and eventually graduating to Tolkein. In the past month, I've been reintroduced to this genre through Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, on which HBO's Game of Thrones is based. (Note that I haven't actually watched this yet -- I'm waiting until my fiancée and I finish reading the currently-published books.)

So a fantasy comic book set in the Middle Ages? In the DC Universe? Why on Earth would I miss this??

And thus, here we are.

So this blog will on one level serve to inform fans of Demon Knights of the basic news and information concerning the series. But at its core, it will be me sharing with you my journey as I discover these characters for the first time. I love the DC Universe, but I know very little about this corner of it. I can't wait to explore it!

In addition to talking about the new series, one of my main focuses will be returning to the original source material and learning about where these guys come from. First up, I'll be reading Kirby's original The Demon series. Look for that soon!

Finally, I want to get other fans involved. If you have anything you would like to see, let me know in the comments section! One thing that would be fun would be guest posts from other fans, describing their history as a fan of these characters. Let's share this space together!
